Jar Lid Ornament by Eileen Bellomo

Supplies:  a lid from a jar    PID Christmas images   glue    glitter    ribbon   sticky strip tape   elastic cord

This is a great last minute ornament.  It barely takes more than minutes to make.

Select the images that will fit your jar lid. If necessary, trim them to size. The Santas I chose are perfect....they are already in a circle.

Apply a thin layer of glue to the inside of the lid and insert the image.  Repeat for the outside of the lid.

Apply a line of glue around each image and sprinkle with glitter.

Tap off excess glitter and allow glue to dry before going on to the next step.
Cut a strip of sticky tape to fit around the rim of the lid and apply.

Apply ribbon around the rim, leaving two long tails.  Tie them into a bow.  Before tying the final knot, slip a loop of elastic cord on so you can hang your ornament.

Technique Tuesday - Floor Wax

Welcome to Technique Tuesday, and yes, you read the title correctly.  By now you probably know that my favorite techniques are a) easy   b) low cost  and c) low tech.  This one is all three, with the added bonus of being a little messy.
Raid the cabinet under your sink for most of the needed supplies:

wax paper (parchment paper works too)         tissue paper        cardstock         paper towel       floor wax            2-3 colors of dye reinkers        perfect pearls (optional)

The wax paper should be about twice the size of your tissue paper and cardstock.  Fold it in half and open it up.  Put it on your protected work surface and squirt some floor wax on one side of the fold.

Squeeze a few drops of each reinker randomly right over the floor wax.

Close up the waxed paper and squoosh it a bit to spread the colors into the wax paper. Then open it back up.  It should look something like this.  Don't worry if the color isn't everywhere.

If you are going to add the perfect pearls, do that now.  Sprinkle just a tiny bit in areas.
Lay the tissue paper right over one side of the wax paper and close it up.  Now really squoosh on the paper to distribute the color completely.  Here's where it could get messy, as the floor wax and inks might leak through.  You might want to wear rubber gloves.  Or not.  I didn't.  I like a mess, and besides, dye ink washes out with soap and water.

Open up the wax paper again.  You'll see that the tissue paper is saturated with color and is quite wet.  Lay a piece of paper towel on top, reclose the wax paper and press down all over.  This does two things:  the paper towel absorbs some of the color and speeds up drying, and it will give you yet another background to use. Open up the wax paper again, and let everything air dry, or speed it along a bit with your heat tool.  Careful with the wax paper...you want to dry it, not melt the wax.
When everything is dry, you will have this:

Colored paper towel, colored tissue paper, colored wax paper.
Next, apply adhesive to cardstock and adhere the colored papers.  You can be creative here too.  Use white cardstock and the colors will remain the same.  Try different colors of cardstock and see how that will change the look.
Then trim the papers to the size you want.  Here are three ready to be made into ATCs:

From left to right:  tissue paper, waxed paper, paper towel.

I chose to use the tissue paper background for the ATC I made for this week's PID challenge.  The theme is "fans and folds," and here it is:

I used collage sheet #705 and some German scrap.  I made the fan with a little piece of patterned paper and attached it with a brad.
Hope you enjoyed this and will give it a try!

Technique Tuesday -- Fun With Drywall Tape!

Nothing better than finding art supplies in the hardware store!  Today, several background techniques using self adhesive mesh drywall tape.  I found mine in a local hardware store.  Great big roll of it for about $3.00!!
Here are some supplies to get you started:

white cardstock     self adhesive mesh drywall tape      assorted inks      ink blending tool or cosmetic sponge
color sprays (commercial or homemade) in various colors

Cover the cardstock with the tape.  I took away a bit of the stickiness of the adhesive by putting the tape on my shirt a couple of times.  Makes removing it later without tearing the paper a snap.

There are several ways to color the paper now.  Here is the first:

Using the ink blending tool or cosmetic sponge, pounce the colors randomly all over the paper.  My completed piece looks like this, but use whatever colors turn you on:

Now the big reveal,.....pull off the tape and you have:

Try applying the tape on an angle for a different look.  The possibilities with this material are endless!
Now, for another technique.  Spray right over a taped piece of cardstock with the color sprays.  I used a homemade concoction of water, reinker and perfect pearls for a very shimmery look:

I used three complimentary colors.

The paper will be quite wet.  You can wait for this to air dry, but I didn't want to "waste" all this lovely wet spray, so I pressed another sheet of cardstock right on top of this still wet one:

This does two things:  accelerates drying time, and gives you a bonus background paper:

Above is the paper I used to blot off the excess spray.  Much more subtle, but another really nice background.
And this is what the shimmery background looks like:

You can also try this with paint!
Look how many ATC sized backgrounds I got from one sheet of cardstock:

And here is the ATC I did for this week's PID yahoo group challenge.  The theme is "angels," and my angel is from one of the beautiful cemetery angel collage sheets:

I hope you'll give this a try.  You may even  have some of this tape hiding in the garage or basement!

Quick And Easy ATC's

It is easy to make atc's during the holiday season when you start out with a pre printed background. PID carries a large selection of atc backgrounds. Here are some atc's that I made using the Christmas background sheets.

All you need to crank out a batch of atc's is a PID focal image, a pre printed background and some embellishments.
Check out all of the great Christmas image sheets at Paper Imagery Designs.

Thanks for stopping by!

Technique Tuesday -- Embossed Tissue Paper

So sorry to be a day late!  I had an early doctor's appointment yesterday and time just got away from me.  So here is Technique Wednesday, LOL.
Easy easy technique, fun and beautiful too.
Here's all you need to get started:

white tissue paper       white cardstock       clear embossing ink        large background stamp
embossing powder (I used gold)        white glue (I used Elmer's)        heat tool

Crumble up the piece of tissue paper:

Open it up, but don't smooth out the wrinkles:

Cover the cardstock with a coat of white glue:

Lay the tissue paper onto the cardstock.  Tap it gently on so that it adheres, but you don't want to smooth out the wrinkles at all!

Stamp all over the paper with your background stamp and cover with the embossing powder.
Variation:  because the wrinkles create hills and valleys, you can skip the background stamp and just swipe over the paper with your clear ink pad and then emboss.  Very similar effect.

Set the embossing powder with your heat tool and this is what you get:

You can leave it as is or try one of these techniques.  You can use a cosmetic sponge to ink over the paper.  The embossed areas will resist the ink.  Here are two examples of that:

I also tried applying paint over the design and wiping it off before it dried.  The gold embossing does still show through:

And here is the ATC I did for this week's challenge, "New Year."

I think this background technique is perfect for a Happy New Year card!

Another Christmas Tag

For all you Tim fans following and doing his 12 Tags of Christmas, this is my take on today's tag.  Notice I used all PID images (check out the Christmas sheets in the shop) instead of old photos.
I think the tag turned out great, and love all those little Santas peeking out from behind the film strip.

Christmas Tag

For last month's Design Team Challenge I showed you how to make a necklace using Tim Holtz's fragment charms with PID images.
I've been following along with Tim's annual 12 Tags of Christmas project, and above is my version of yesterday's tag.
Tim used stamped images on the charms.  I used some beautiful vintage images from some of the new PID Christmas sheets.  Check out the shop; these sheets will make you gift/card making a snap!
The same technique we used to make the necklace was used to make the "ornaments" for the tag.  And by the way, I got the German scrap trim from PID too!
