Easy Pendant

I have a lot of the Tim Holtz clear fragments and haven't done much with them.  But this wonderful PID image (sheet # 647) seemed perfect for a charm or pendant.
I simply glued it onto the back of the fragment and then searched my stash for some embellishments.  I added a metal corner on the top and then attached the dragonfly brad.  Since this fragment comes with a pre-drilled hole, all I had to do to finish it off is attach a jump ring.  Now it's ready for a chain or ribbon to wear around my neck.....or maybe I'll add it to one of my charm bracelets.

I'm a Project Runway wannabe!! :D

Every Thursday night *Life as the people who live here with me know it* comes to an abrupt halt. At nine o'clock I park my behind in front of the tv and do not move for an entire hour. I happily soak up all the inspiration the show has to offer. I love watching the designers take yards of humble cloth and create exquisite creations from it. Oh if only I could sew like that (sigh)! Last Thursday night after the season premiere aired I was feeling the sewing bug biting me...so off to the art room I went. I pretended I was in mood and only had 10 minutes to shop. All I knew is that I wanted to make some kind of doll and that I wanted to use some of the new PID images for the dolls' faces.

I decided on the tried and true icicle doll (introduced by my friend Belinda Schneider last year). Icicle dolls are a lot of fun to make, and I found one little area in which I can make them even easier than the way Belinda showed me how to do it. I fold the fabric that I'm cutting the doll from in half, and then I "free form" cut the icicle shape on the folded edge... this means I only have one side seam to contend with. Once my shape is cut out I begin sewing bits of fabric and ribbon directly onto my base fabric. I cut off any excess before stitching each piece. Once the entire doll shape is covered in fabric I add a few embellishments (like buttons, faux flowers etc., stitch on a face, stuff and sew up the top--ta da easy peasy! For 2 of the dolls shown above I used gorgeous images from Paper Imagery Design's "Movie Stars" sheet.

The best thing about the icicle dolls is that you can make them as BIG or as SMALL as you'd like. They look great hanging on the Christmas tree, and they make perfect little trades when you fashion small ones into little brooches or pendants for your artsy necklaces.

I'm going to give-a-way the little moon faced gal shown above (she was actually supposed to be down here, but blogger is being a PITA and not putting my pictures where I want them) If you like her please leave a comment on this post and I'll enter your name into the drawing. I'll have my daughter pick a winner next Thursday night *after* Project Runway of course :D

Brown Bag Background Technique

This weeks challenge on the PID yahoo group is to use a brown paper bag or brown shipping paper for your background. As soon as Angie posted the challenge I knew what I was going to do.

This technique is simple, you only need 3 supplies and you can get many different looks just by changing to color ink you use.

Supplies
Brown Bag or Shipping Paper
Distress Ink
Spray bottle with water

Take your brown bag and crumple it up into a ball. Open it up, smooth out lightly and repeat. You can do this step as many times as you want. Or skip it entirely for a different look.

Once you've got you paper looking wrinkly smooth it out on your work surface. Pick any color of Distress Ink that you like. Now lightly run the ink pad over the paper, allowing the ink to hit the high spots. Do this as many times as you like. Add another color if you'd like.
Now spray the paper with the spray bottle full of water. Watch how the distress ink flows into the low areas.

I hope you enjoyed the technique and if you would like to join in on the PID challenges come join us on the PID yahoo group .

Weekly Challenge 8/24

The week the challenge is to use a Brown Bag in your ART. If you don't have a brown bag to recycle feel free to use postal wrap, manilla envelope, etc anything similar that you can recycle.
Please remember to use a PID image if you play along.

Here is my ATC.....

I cut open a lunch sack size brown bag that had been used for something else and had a sticker on the outside. I picked two of my favorite blue paints and swooshed and smooshed it around until I was happy with the results.....

Then I stamped a pretty design with flourishes all over. When it was dry I sponged on a coat of iridescent glitter paint to complete my background.
For my Misc. ART Piece I made this little house. I used a chipboard base. I used another brown lunch sack and painted it with brown antiquing gel.

August ATC Jackpot

Every month we have an ATC Jackpot at the Paper Imagery Designs yahoo group. At the end of the month a name is drawn from all the participants, and that lucky person will receive ALL of the ATCs that were entered.

What a great way to collect some art from our very talented members.

The theme for August is "nature," and you can interpret it any way you like. Just make sure your card is ATC-sized (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") and contains at least one PID image.

I created an album at the group site, and am getting this started with my "Nature Boy" ATC.

I used the adorable Emmett from PID collage sheet #571.

Looking forward to seeing YOUR ATC in the album!
