Flourish & Circle Challenge

I've been having a lot of fun with this weeks challenges on the yahoo group. I already posted a piece for the flourish challenge this week but I came across a sheets of atc flourish transparencies I have in my transparency binder. ( Note to self keep the transparency binder handy!)
The black flourishes are from the transparency and the white is some doodling I did with the Ranger white pen also available from PID.

You can find the transparency sheet here. PID has an assortment of transparency sheets to fit atc's.

The new challenge for this week is circles. Here is a 3 x 3 that I made.

Thanks for looking!

Bamboo Tile Necklaces Can Be So Simple

Some basic supplies you will need are:

Bamboo Tile (available in the PID Supplies section)

decorative paper (I used 2x2 background sheet #370)

image (I used a sweet little girl from sheet #165)

charm

bead (with a large hole)
36 inches of thin ribbon

5 inches 1/4 inch wide copper tape

glue

you can add as many embellishments & extras as you like to your necklace .....glitter glue, paint, fabric, vintage text, lace, etc....any of your favorite collage elements.

Start out by gluing a decorative paper to the front and back of your bamboo tile (I use white glue and a paint brush) press down nicely and trim to fit. Cut out main image. Glue to the Bamboo tile front and trim.

Here I added a torn piece of decorative paper and clipped out word (STRONG) along the bottom. Trim the tile with the copper tape, burnish it down and poke the holes out (I use an awl...lots of things will work for this...needle, paintbrush handle, toothpick, etc)

Cut 36 inches of thin ribbon (or you could use a fiber, chain or lace) and string a charm on. String on end of the ribbon in each side of the bamboo tile...tie a knot in the top, string on a bead and tie another knot. Tie a knot in the end of the ribbon and slip on your new necklace.

You could make it shorter annd add a clasp if you wish.

WOULD YOU LIKE THIS NECKLACE to be YOURS??? Leave a comment here and I will draw a winner from the entries on Thursday, February 5th. Be sure I can contact you via email to get your snail mail address so I can send the necklace.

Monday Challenge CIRCLES

Every Monday I host a challenge for the Paper Imagery Designs Yahoo Group. This Monday the challenge is CIRCLES!! Hope everyone will have FUN with this weeks theme!!

Angie

Fairie wands

I am so much in love with anything cute! I love fairies and as a child i could just imagine them fluttering about, waving their little wands and make tiny miracles happen!
needsless to say i wanted a wand of my own!

Now i am a grown-up and i still want a wand lol! So i made one!

The base is a used up paintbrush with the brushy part removed. I glued cute little Avery to a pair of butterfly wings (that i attached with a little nail to the wooden wand).

I adhered a ribbon with double sided tape and put some very sparkly jewelry on Averys cloths and wings. Some flowers and more ribbon to complete:)

Altered Compact Swap

Hi Everyone! It's Miz Carla (the hyper DT gal) and I'm super excited to tell you about a fun swap I'm hosting. We are going to be altering compacts--yep we're gonna take plain old used (or new with the makeup removed) compacts and glamming them up DIVA style! I wanna see lots of girlie colors and **BLING** When our friends see us whipping these beauties out to make sure we don't have lipstick on our teeth they are gonna be *SO* J E A L O U S! Don't forget to "art up" the inside of the compact (where the make-up was)...you'll be surprised what you can fit in that small space!

Here are the details....

Sign up? Please sign up for this swap by leaving a comment here with your email address. I'll contact you and we'll be good to go.

Due Date? Compacts need to be in my hands by March 31, 2009.

Postage? Please mail your compacts along with 2.00 (U.S. participants) 0r 3.00 (Overseas participants. Wrap your compacts in bubble wrap to keep them safe. I will reuse your envelopes and bubble wrap to send back your returns. I'll swap these babies swapped out and on their way to you within a day or two of the swap's closing. Please send your compacts to....

Carla Naron
P.O. Box 1327
Glenmora, LA 71433

If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to email me
mizcarlacat@aol.com

********************a few helpful hints****************************

1. Sand compact lightly before painting or gluing on papers.
2. Spray paint rocks for this project.
3. If you do spray paint the inside--tape over the mirror--we want to keep these functional.
4. When using paint or glue on your compact--place a piece of wax paper between the top and bottom parts (when closed) or else you might paint or glue it shut.
5. If you don't have a compact run down to your local dollar store and purchase a cheapie pressed powder. You can scrape the powder out w/ a butter knife and run the compact through the dishwasher.

If you have some of the lovely paper imagery design goodies we'd love for you to use them (there are some fabulous new sheets on the site that would be PERFECT for this project) .

We'll be sure to show you off properly around here too :D so come on gals--sign up now!!!

Technique Thursday - My Piece by Eileen

This week's technique was to use french netting. (See Pam's wonderful tutorial below). Well, I wanted to participate, but had none of that available....what I did have was a newly purchased bag of onions. The red plastic the onions came in isn't exactly french, but it is netting, and I'm a great believer in using what you have and making things work. It was a little difficult to get it to stick to my ATC, but I made it work by kind of sandwiching it under some scrap trim. So here's my Mona Lisa behind a red veil!

Flourishes in Metal

Here's my contribution to the flourishes!!! See all the little darlings in the cubbie and the bird? First is image 281 of the baby, then Amber from 288, Tessa 121, and Avery 466!

The flourishes are in the metal behind the kids and the paper.

Have an ARTFUL day!

Flourish Challenge & Jumbo ATC's

This weeks challenge on the PID yahoo group is Flourish. Angie runs the challenges on the group and she has been coming up with some great themes for us to do. The fun thing about the challenges is that you can do an ATC or any other size piece for the challenges so your not stuck working with a size that you just don't feel like working with. For instance if your not a big atc person you can still participate in the challenge by making a 4 X 4 or even an unusual size like I have been doing. I am calling these jumbo atc's because they are like an atc but a little bigger. The size I have been having a great time with is 3 x 4. Only 1/2 inch bigger all around then an atc but if you try it you will be amazed at how much more room it is to work on compared to an atc.

The challenges run for two weeks and then if you want to mingle out your art you can sign up in the database and trade or you can keep your art. No pressure to give away a piece you've made that you have fallen in love with.

Come join us over at the Paper Imagery Designs yahoo group and if you make a 3 x 4 let me know.

Technique/Tutorial By Pam Barnes

This is one of my favorite techniques for creating atc's.
Using perfect paper adhesive collage a variety of papers and stamped images to an atc background.

Using DPT apply distress inks to background.
Adhere PID image. Brush on a coat of perfect paper adhesive, while wet lay down a piece of french netting. Apply another coat of perfect paper adhesive over the netting.
You can cover the entire atc with the french netting or just a portion.

A moment in time, the entire atc is covered with red netting.

For Copper Blooms I covered the entire background with black netting and embellished with copper German scrap and copper flowers.
I covered only a portion of the Boy of Joy atc with netting.

DTP- Direct To Paper is when you apply the ink pad directly to your paper.
French Netting- Hair Nets your local dollar store find.
Gel Medium can be used in place of perfect paper adhesive.

Send in your artwork using Pam's technique and I will post to the blog!! melissa at paperimagerydesigns dot com

Of course its Contest Time...

Why would it not be???

As you know all of our images come from flea markets, garage sales, ebay and the like.. most of them have their original names on the backs or penciled in somewhere. I spend lots and lots of hours touching them up and fixing them to make them look true.

I feel attached to these little PID people the kids the woman the men... they are like family I work with them to make them more vibrant and more to life. Give them back their personality and I leave the rest up to you to make them come to life again.

Some of our images do not have names ... and I have to come up with the perfect name for them, like Gus and Gump their names have meaning to one of our design team members and it fit them perfect. And Sarah the face of PID as soon as I saw her I knew her name was Sarah!

Heres where you all come in... I need some names for our new little people of PID. I have so many new sheets coming out that are nameless and I wish I knew more about them.

Post here some names of some men, women, little pid kids, boys and girls and if your names are chosen you will get those sheets sent to you at their release February 1st. Make sure you sign up for our newsletter to find out if your names were chosen. I want some good names no FruFur names like ButterCup ... :)

You must leave a comment at this post with your names!! Have fun!!
Everyone is eligible to comment and win. Contest ends January 30th.

Valentines Art

Thanks Christine for sending in your artwork.

Glossy Accents

I have been using glossy accents lately in my art, for a medium and also to apply beads mix with glitter and to fill in metal frames. Anyone else use it what do you like or dislike about it? Has anyone used the sepia or matte accents or the crackle?

I like the glossy as a medium for gluing but when it overflows it leaves the glossiness smoosh out and I am not one for glossy. I do prefer matte but have no matte accents.

I like that it dries quick when its not a thick layer and seems to also build a platform under your work makes it more durable. I love when I have a metal frame I put a pic under it and fill it in with the accents. It makes like faux glass!

Fat Book Swap at PID and How Tos...

We are having our first 2009 Swap and it is a Fat Book Swap! Well more of a not so fat book, we had 13 players sign up not too bad for a first time run. Next time we will have more after they see what they missed! Remember if at any time you want to join in our swaps please join our yahoo group.

Here are some examples of my Fat Book pages they are 4x4 and the theme is Vintage Valentines and to do a background technique I chose distressed papers with paints. What ever that is ... well all it is paint your background papers with different paints and techniques and distress a little, i did so with my distress inks.

Here are some of my pages and hopefully this will answer any questions you may have when making pages for a fat book or when binding at all!

Ok first I got the NEW Zutter Bind-It-All and it ROCKS!! Well worth the investment and well worth the everything it does.

Ok Back to the pages, the instructions are to not put any metal embellishments or heavy items on the left side of your fat book pages at least 1/4 in out from the edge. Make sure your pages are on some heavy card stock or chipboard. I used light weight chipboard and glued my card stock to that. If you want to make your pages 3 3/4in x 4in you can do, and glue them to 4x4 chipboard. That too will work!

Here are a few of my Pages:

As you can clearly see the punched holes for binding which is done be me. Those holes are approx 1/4 - 1/2 in inside so this is why you cannot embellish with heavy items on this side. I have light weight embellishing so it was ok to punch.

Light weight embellishments are card stock, stickers and other papers but not layered multiple times. Heavy embellishments that will not punch through are metal, epoxy stickers, charms, fibers, ribbon and glossy accent will crack badly it layered on your pages. I already found this out ;) O and I will be using 3/4 in rings in black!!

Have fun making those pages !!! I hope this helped with anyone's Qs you may have had!!

PS: Email me for the sale on the Zutter Bind-It-All .... melissa at paperimagerydesigns dot com
its such a big sale I cannot post it!!

More Valentine Art by Eileen

This is Avery, found on collage sheet # 458. For the background I stamped some flourishes, then sprayed with pink Glimmer Mist. I trimmed the ATC with red German scrap foil, also available from PID. The sentiment was printed on my label maker. Quick, easy, and I think, very loveable!

Hearts and Polka Dots

This is this weeks challenge and to start us off is this gorgeous piece by Pam Barnes

Lets see yours....

Valentine Art by Eileen

Emily (collage sheet #218) makes the cutest Valentine! I used a dotted embossing folder to give some texture to the background and the hearts, and accented the dots with stickles and a white gel pen. Don't have the equipment to die cut hearts or do embossing? No worries....the PID store has embossed hearts and embossed ATC bases, with samples of what you can do with them. Check it out, and give someone some LOVE!

Tessa is Here! from Linda Cain

Isn't she adorable?!?!?!??! And I LOVE the background!!!

I used the new Maya Road Cherry Blossoms & Birds chipboard to accent the sides with a bit of Distress Inks. And the bird's wing is metal tape run through the Cuttlebug plus some Alcohol Ink.......kinda cute!

Go Play and order some great Paper Imagery Designs like Tessa 121 to inspire you!
