Technique Tuesday - Decorative Napkin Backgrounds

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!  This week's challenge theme at the PID Yahoo group is books.  I did an ATC and a postcard, and used two versions of the decorative napkin background technique.  Here is what you'll need:

an adhesive that dries clear (I used a matte gel medium here.  You can use white glue, decoupage medium, PPA, just about anything.  You can choose a matte or glossy finish)
a decorative napkin
cardboard or cardstock backing
inexpensive brush

First carefully separate the layers (usually there are two) and discard the plain layer.  If you don't do this when using adhesive you will probably have problems getting the napkin to adhere properly.

If you want to preserve the design as is, simply coat your backing with adhesive, lay the napkin down on it, and apply another layer of adhesive:

For a totally different look, tear the napkin into smaller pieces and apply them to the backing collage-style, overlapping the pieces. Again, when finished apply additional adhesive over the top.

Don't worry about papers that hangs over the edges.  When everything is dry, you can trim them away.

Here is the ATC I did using the collage technique with PID sheets #649 and #666:

And this is the postcard I did using the decorative napkin as is with PID sheets #649 and #494:

This is fun and easy.  Give it a try and let us know how you like it.  You can also create beautiful backgrounds with decorative napkins and beeswax, but that's for a future Technique Tuesday!
