DT Challenge Wanda Hentges

Christmas Ornaments by Wanda Hentges

Ornament 1

Collage Sheets - #351 matte, #329 transparency
Mini CD (about 3 1/8” diameter)
Sanding block or fine grit sand paper
Distress crackle paint – peeled paint
Ranger glossy accents
Krylon paint pen – gold
Glimmer mist – Iridescent gold
Golden soft gel medium
Crop-a-dile
Tiny holeless beads – gold
Prima poinsettia flowers
Brad – gold
Stickles glitter glue – gold
Ribbon – metallic gold

* Sand both sides of the CD.
* Paint one side of the CD with crackle paint and let it air dry. Even with sanding, the crackle paint will want to flake off the CD some after it is dry. I allow some flaking (adds to the distress look) but to prevent much or all of it from flaking, I coat over the crackle paint with either Glossy or Matte Accents. For this ornament I used Glossy and let it air dry completely.
* Spray over the glossy accents with Glimmer Mist gold and dry gently with a heat tool. The gold is very subtle but gives a nice highlight as the ornament moves.
* Edge the CD with Krylon and also paint entire back with the Krylon pen. After it was dry I also coated over the back with Glossy Accents just to be sure the Krylon stayed put.
* Cut out the tree and girl from sheet #351 and attach with gel medium trimming the excess off the bottom.
* Cut out “Joy” from transparency #329 and attach with gel medium (be sure to use glossy for this so that it dries transparent).
* Punch two holes in the top of the CD using the Crop-A-Dile.
* Make a line of Glossy Accents around the CD and pour on gold beads. Dump off the extra beads and let dry.
* Put poinsettia flowers together with gold brad, attach to the CD with either Glossy Accents or gel medium, and then add gold Stickles over the brad for extra glitz.
* Attach ribbon through holes and tie for a hanger.

Ornament 2
Collage Sheet #360
Large plastic glittered snowflake – about 4” across (available from craft stores)
Red stick-on gems
Cardstock – red
1 1/2” Circle Punch
Deckle Scissors
Metallic Ribbons

* Punch out image with circle punch.
* Attach image to red cardstock and cut out with deckle scissors.
* Glue circle to center of snowflake.
* Add gems and ribbon hanger and bow to snowflake.

*** You could also do this to the other side and have a 2-sided ornament.
